The Brynmor Jones Library Archives Revisited
The Brynmor Jones Library, The University of Hull.
Judy Burg, the University's Archivist, ably hosted the Society's visit to Larkin's library; including access to.
- Larkin letters including the recently-acquired correspondence with his parents
- Larkin photographs
- Other Larkinalia including spectacles and toads
Judy laid on veritable banquet of documents, photographs and other Larkinalia for this select gathering - strictly limited in number for security reasons. Brenda Moon, Larkin's former Deputy in the Library came down from Scotland to meet up again with her former colleagues from Larkin's day, Eddie Dawes, Chair of the Library Committee, and Betty Mackereth, Larkin's Secretary. Unsurprisingly, Don Lee went away with several intriguing new leads and questions to be followed up.

The Philip Larkin Society in conjunction with Wyke Sixth Form College
The Annual Sixth Form Study Day on Larkin's Poetry
The Lyndsey Suite, Staff House, The University of Hull.
The latest in the Larkin Society's series of annual Study Days for A-Level students was ably coordinated by Belinda Hakes, Head of English at Wyke College and former editor of About Larkin. It was a bustling event attended by 170 students from five colleges in Hull, Newcastle, Sheffield, Rotherham and Grimsby.
James Booth talked about 'Living Rooms and Dying Rooms in the Work of Philip Larkin', and Charles Mundye from the Scarborough Campus gave a vivid lecture on 'Larkin, Memory and History', illustrated with images of Coventry and the Great War. Belinda Hakes led workshops on 'The Essential Larkin'.
After lunch the students gave their own presentations. Set the task of creating a cover for a selected edition of Larkin's poetry, they came up with some imaginative images. Then came a first-hand personal account, 'Larkin's Love of Life', by Larkin's erstwhile publisher, Jean Hartley, and the proceedings ended with a highly animated question and answer session involving all the speakers.
