THE PHILIP LARKIN SOCIETY is seeking funding to install a large slate inscribed roundel at Kingís Cross Station to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the publication of Philip Larkinís collection The Whitsun Weddings. The poem which gives the collection its title is based on Larkinís journey from Hull to Kingís Cross Station in which he describes the weddings he observes en route. This roundel will complement and form the final link between the two stations and Larkinís poem. At the same time it will take Hullís iconic poet into the centre of the capital promoting not just Larkin but the city and its status as City of Culture 2017.
