all night north

all night north is an album of 12 new songs, by some of the best songwriters from Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire, using Philip Larkin poems as lyrics. The album, funded by Hull City Arts Unit through Larkin25 and The Philip Larkin Society, was released on 10 June 2010 as part of the activities commemorating the 25th anniversary of the poet's death.

The bands and singer-songwriters involved were each asked to select a Philip Larkin poem and create a musical setting or interpretation of their chosen poem. They were then given a day in Fairview Recording Studio, in Willerby, to record and mix their song.

The CD artwork was created by Joseph Payne.

all night north has its own dedicated website at www.allnightnorth.co.uk, where copies of the CD can be ordered, and where more information about the project is available. The website also contains information about the songwriters and bands involved, with links to their websites and further examples of their music.
